Hello. I picked up my gamepad earlier to play TMU. I managed to push the accellerate button (only use analog for steering) and then my pad just cut out and no buttons would work whatsoever. The area where the USB cord attaches to the pad heats up when it's connected to the USB ports, so is this a sign of the connections coming awry? Have/had a Logitech rumblepad 2.
I have a soldering kit, so hopefully it's not too hard of a job to stick it all back together...Though it's been a long while since I have used it and my hands shake like a fish out of water.

Until I fix it, I won't be driving often because the keyboard driving gives me hand cramps (And was the main reason why I bought my pad in the first place, driving faster was just a benifit)

Oh and for those others who own pads, don't wind up the cable around the pad itself. During the process of winding and unwinding the cable seems to have loosened slightly. So just keep your cables a mess and you should be fine lol

If you have a PS2 controller, get a usb adapter for it. Perfect controller.

If you decide to resolder it, it should be pretty easy. I just redid a gamecube controller that had some loose connections. Use a pointed tip and presolder the wire. Then you basically just have to heat the wire up when it's in place.

Thanks for the advice, but all the wires (5 of them Shocked) are connected correctly. I'm inclined to believe the pad itself has died, but that doesnt explain the heated wire surrounding. I don't have any wire trimmers, so I'm not going to risk destroying it with scissors.

I'll wait until I get a new pad.

My wheel is proving to be balky. I think that 5 years is enough for it.

Not that you need the information anymore, but FYI, if the wires are getting hot then that usually means that there is a short somewhere. The best way to check for a short is a resistance (resistor) check with a multimeter if you have one. Some (like mine) also have a "short" test that sounds a tone when it finds a short. Very useful. Oh yeah, and as mentioned, never tightly wind thin usb cables around anything. They like it best when you leave them alone. If I need to make them look neater, I'll do a very loose wrap of the cable itself and then cable tie it.
